Catholic
Religious Education (CRE) is offered to
all Catholic children who attend public
schools.
CRE is offered during 930 Mass for Fifth through Eighth Grade students. The children hear and discuss Bible stories, sing, and have creative activities. We call this part of our program Little Church. Before Mas begins, their parents take them to the first grade classroom at the school. They are picked up by their parents immediately after Mass ends.
Kindergarteners through sixth graders may attend CRE on Sunday mornings [10:45 - 12:00], Tuesday afternoons [4:00 - 5:00], or Wednesday afternoons [4:00 - 5:00], space permitting. They have class in the school, always beginning downstairs in the lunchroom. Snacks are free and available up to 5 minutes before class begins.
Junior High is offered on Monday evenings, 7:00 - 8:15 pm at the Parish Center. [Use the doors on Arlington Street].
CRE is focused on assisting parents with the spiritual development of their children. Materials for Kindergarten through fourth grade utilize the Sunday readings to connect Gospel values to today's concerns. That series is published by Pflaum. Fif-eighth grades utilize more academic materials.
Home Study, using these same materials, is an option for those who need it.
Registration is held in August. In 2008, it will be offered after all Masses August 23-24. Classes will begin the week of September 14.
All classes rely on volunteers who receive training and curriculum. Our goal is to have two catechists [teachers of the faith] in every classroom. This is a very rewarding ministry, and helps you grow in the faith to the extent you desire it. Diocesan Certification is also available through our parish.
