Ronald W. Cherry
My
brother and sisters in Christ, I am Ronald
W. Cherry, I was born in Dallas, Texas,
on July 28, 1950, to Imogene and John
Cherry. I have two brothers and two sisters.
We moved to Denver, Colorado when I was
16. I graduated from high school and enlisted
in the military during the Vietnam War.
I served in the U.S. Navy and retired
after serving for 20 years. I met and
married my wife, Morita C. Cherry, while
in the military. We have four (4) adult
children and 11 grandchildren. We have
resided in Fallon, Nevada, for 21 years
where we assist two of our daughters in
raising five (5) of our grandchildren.
Additionally, while serving in the military
I attended college in the evening and
was awarded an Associates Degree from
Western Nevada Community College.
I was ordained a Deacon for the Diocese
of Reno, Nevada, on June 10, 2006. I am
privileged and honored to be one of the
deacons among the first group of candidates
who went through four (4) years of formation
here in Northern Nevada and were ordained
for service by this diocese.
Presently my primary ministry at Our Lady
of the Snows is in the area of baptism.
Morita and I prepare parents for baptism
of their child or children through an
interview and preparation process. On
several occasions since my ordination,
I have been given the opportunity to welcome
a new child into the Catholic Community
through the Sacrament of Baptism. This
has been and always will be a tremendous
blessing for me. Morita and I are also
involved with assisting with the Interfaith
Hospitality Network (IHN) when Our Lady
of the Snows hosts the families for a
week.
Both Morita and I feel very fortunate
that God has placed us here at Our Lady
of the Snows to minister to so many good
people. We both look forward to continuing
to minister to the people of Our Lady
of the Snows in whatever way we are needed. |
